And it's thick too. With no layers of the cowhide shaved off, we keep the toughest part of the hide intact. Then we line the entire inside of this leather satchel with pigskin, which is even more durable than cow hide. Everything is sewn together using really long-lasting marine-grade polyester thread. The way we sew is different too. Using only 5 stitches per inch, we are able to reduce the number of holes in the leather, which, in turn, means less potential for a tear to occur.The buckles and d-rings are over-engineered, made from a custom 316 stainless steel. Low-quality, low-life companies shave off the grain, which is the tough and resistant top part of the hide, to get rid of those eww icky scars, so they don't have to cut around them and throw the leather away. That is how they can use almost every bit of that hide. To make our leather satchels, we throw a lot of leather away because we refuse to shave the grain off. It's like they're shaving the shingles off of your roof. The upper hide with the full amount of the grain on it, and the bottom hide with no grain on it. Quality companies pay high dollar for the full grain leather, and low quality trash companies make leather toiletry bags out of the bottom dwelling stuff with no grain on it. I can only get it this thick by ordering \"Heavy Steer\" hides. Most cows are slaughtered between 15 to 18 months old, but these bulls lost their lives at about 24 months old. That extra time doesn't give them much more meat, but it does give them thicker skin. That's important because the hormones now are redirected to muscle and size. This is the thickest leather we can get.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003e---\u003c\/p\u003e \u003ch2\u003eTanned for Strength and Longevity\u003c\/h2\u003e \u003cp\u003eOur leather was not cheaply tanned. Vegetable tanning takes a long time to do right. Low quality tanneries only soak it for two to three weeks, but ours was allowed to soak up the tannins for 6 to 8 weeks which makes it stronger and last longer, which in turn makes your leather belt to be stronger and lasts longer too. The shingles are the same as the grain of a hide of leather. It's pretty much the top 25% of the hide. It's the toughest most watertight part with all of the tight hard fibers. A lot of companies sand or split off the top of the hide with all of the grain to get rid of the scars and blemishes but remove all of the grain. It's like taking off the shingles of the roof. You still have a roof, but it won't last long. And then lined the thick leather with pigskin, which is stronger than the cow skin. And if this leather overnight bag weren't strong enough with that, we sew it all together with our strangely strong industrial marine grade and UV resistant polyester thread. Nylon thread is cheaper but it deteriorates when the sun hits it. Our custom hardware is maybe a little overkill. It's 316 Stainless Steel (please please google it). The clasps have been tested to hold up to 750 lb bags of cats without breaking. When we put the next cat in there, it broke.
